At some point during the second millennium of the Old Era, the entire world fell into darkness...

No one knows what day marked the beginning of the Black Sun Era, what had caused the disaster, nor how long it lasted. Records that have survived into the New Era tell of a time when the Sun ceased being visible in the sky, replaced by a mysterious orb that could only best be described as an inverted sun.

From the moment the Black Sun first appeared in the skies, sea levels rose at an alarming rate, over a hundred meters, swallowing entire islands and cities overnight. Some parts of the world plunged into the sea, lost forever; some rarer exceptions experienced a stranger phenomenon and rose over the sea, floating in the sky. As the world population scrambled to safety, the violent shifts in weather triggered a series of nuclear meltdowns.

Humanity barely survived.

With servers down, the world entered a digital dark age. Digital records have virtually all been lost in time. History and culture slowly eroded away by time, the sea, and the endless winter.

Engulfed in darkness, the world experienced a nuclear winter for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. With their population numbers dangerously low, the human race hung on the verge of extinction.

Yet, somehow, they prevailed. A brilliant mind among them named Tiam invented an energy source rebooted society back to its feet. Named after its inventor, the Tiam is renewable, highly efficient, and leaves zero carbon footprints. As the world relit, so did the Sun once more, and the mysterious Black Sun no longer haunted the skies.

Slowly, humanity thrived once more, ushering forth a new era of a more connected world. Accompanied by androids tasked to aid humans in every task imaginable, humans looked to a future that would not repeat the mistakes of their ancestors. No more country lines, no more wars, no more pollution.

When the United Domains, the global government, formed in the year 425 NE, tensions rose as many did not take kindly to the idea of an Earth under government rule once more. However, without the joint efforts of the central government the world would not have advanced even further.

Yet despite the good the United Domains have brought into the New Era, something dark lurks within. The Moonchildren feel the burn most of all, but they can do little against the tides from the powerful world government.

Is the United Domains targeting them? If so, why?
